BUILD 17 ยท 04 SEPT 2026 ยท 12:23 BST
Explained by the Pink Cow
Optional technical understanding for AI builders who want to learn what is happening downstairs.
Learn enough to stay in control. Leave the plumbing downstairs.
You do not need this knowledge to begin. The Cow explains it gradually, in Cowglish (plain English!), whenever understanding more would help you make a better decision.
Understanding a little more over time can help you stay in control, ask better questions and notice when something is not right.
This page is optional learning, not homework. Start with what matters. Go deeper only when it is useful or interesting.
What is this thing, without the jargon?
What does the human need to understand or decide?
What can safely remain with the AI and technical machinery?
These are not lessons to memorise. They are useful reference points when something goes wrong or you want to understand a build more clearly.
PLAIN ENGLISH: The place holding the authoritative version of your code.
WHAT MATTERS: Know which version is the source of truth and make sure the thing being published comes from it.
NERDS DOWNSTAIRS: You do not need to become a Git expert. The AI should handle commits, branches and merging carefully, then explain the outcome.
PLAIN ENGLISH: The process that turns your saved code into the live product people can visit.
WHAT MATTERS: When a build ships successfully, the normal live URL should show it. If it does not, the thing you are viewing may not be the thing you just built.
NERDS DOWNSTAIRS: You should not need to understand deployment infrastructure merely to know whether your change shipped.
PLAIN ENGLISH: Persistent memory for information your product needs to remember later.
WHAT MATTERS: If the product needs to remember something tomorrow, it needs somewhere persistent to live. If it does not, do not add a database by habit.
NERDS DOWNSTAIRS: You do not need to learn SQL just to decide whether your product needs memory.
PLAIN ENGLISH: The system that points a human-friendly web address to the right live product.
WHAT MATTERS: Be clear about the address people should use and the product it should open. DNS changes can also affect other services, so they should be checked before acting.
NERDS DOWNSTAIRS: The AI should handle the plumbing carefully rather than making you become a DNS technician.
